Spring Creeks fishing best with cold weather

Slush ice in town means no go... even for wade fishing on the Stone

The Winter blues has kicked into to full affect.  While most of us here at the shop have been spending our free time taking pow turns at Bridger, we’ve all managed to get a rod bent here and there.  The good news about all this snow is that we should have more water for the river next year!  As for the fishing, we’ve all tried our hand at fishing both the river and the spring creeks.  The river has become increasingly difficult with slush ice and low water temps.  However, the Spring Creeks have remained a great option.  The fish have been actively seeking food.  Most of our fish have been taken subsurface on midge emergers, zebra midge, and larva lace flies.  If you’re looking to fish dries, pay close attention to the forecast and look for windows with less wind and less sunshine.  Keep in mind conditions are consistently changing so stop in for an updated report or fly recommendations.  As always feel free to give us a call!  406-222-7130.
